Improving the Practice of Conservation

 

Caroline Stem

Caroline is a Senior Program Officer for FOS. Her work at FOS has included trainings of conservation field staff in adaptive management, the development of related training guides and resources, coordination of a learning network on conservation easements in Latin America, evaluations of conservation programs, and applied research on the evolution of monitoring and evaluation approaches. Before joining FOS, she spent nearly four years working Ecuador and Bolivia for local non-profit organizations, as well as USAID. Her work ranged from environmental and health education with local communities to research on parks and people dynamics to helping establish a monitoring and evaluation framework for USAID/Bolivia’s environment program. Caroline has a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in public health, both from the University of Michigan. In 2001, she received her doctoral degree in natural resource management from Cornell University. Her doctoral research explored how ecotourism in Costa Rican communities influenced conservation attitudes and practices. She is fluent in Spanish.
