Vinaya Swaminathan

Vinaya specializes in designing and leading academic courses in adaptive management, facilitating strategic planning workshops for conservation project teams, as well as planning and undertaking portfolio assessments. With FOS, Vinaya has helped a number of organizations and networks apply the processes, skills, and tools of adaptive management to their conservation work. Vinaya joined FOS after completing her M.S. in sustainable development and conservation biology at UMD. As a graduate student, she led a team in developing a graduate course in adaptive management based on the CMP’s Open Standards for the Practice of Conservation, a course she continues to co-lead at UMD. Before graduate school, Vinaya gained field experience as a telemetry specialist for the University of Georgia and as a natural resource management and interpretation intern for the US Park Service at Voyageurs National Park in Minnesota. Vinaya spent a semester abroad as an undergraduate in Tanzania, East Africa, and has returned to the region several times through her work at FOS. In addition to her M.S., Vinaya has a B.S. in biology from the University of Texas at Austin.
